Starting out as the Rakino Rally held on Labour weekends in October, this was a relaxed cruising event where the Victory Rum trophy was gently introduced. The visit to Rakino Island morphed into the Spring Splash, held as the Club’s opening event of the sailing season; Kawau Island became the venue. The Lidgard house in Bon Accord Harbour, and Mansion House Bay, were the first centres of attention. Now, it is a regular event in conjunction with the newly re-formed Kawau Boating Club. A Mark Foy race is held around Rabbit and Goat islands, through Blanche Channel, around Motuketekete Island and back to the finish in Bon Accord Harbour. Everyone gathers in the Kawau clubhouse for the prize giving, a dinner and a dance. Even the Victory Rum trophy feels good.
